GO GOLD AUSTRALIA

We exist to encourage the Australian public to stand united with kids fighting cancer. Throughout September, we ask everyone to demonstrate their support for childhood cancer by displaying a gold ribbon. We hope to raise awareness of childhood cancer during September through the gold illumination of iconic buildings and landmarks throughout Australia. Our purpose is to ensure the colour gold becomes recognized nationally and internationally with childhood cancer and our awareness month September.

HISTORY OF THE GOLD RIBBON

Awareness ribbons enable international action for a particular cause. The gold ribbon represents childhood cancer awareness all over the world. A group of parents initiated the gold ribbon back in 1997. Now an international symbol, the gold ribbon creates global unity and represents all kids diagnosed with cancer and their families. The colour gold was chosen for kids cancer in recognition of their strength, their courage, and their resiliency. We encourage everyone to support the global childhood cancer campaign by wearing a GOLD RIBBON.

Will you come if I ask you to,
and listen to stories of children,
some lost, some healed, some never the same?
Will you care if I say they need you
and your strength to beat what they’ve been fighting
some hopeless, some hopeful, some flying free?
Will you fight? if I showed you how
for their futures, so they can make their dreams come true.
some doctors, some artists, some teachers?
Will you leave if I talk too much
or will you leave your handprints here changing things for the better
some hope, and some more hope, and even more hope

GOLD IN SEPTEMBER

Every year in September, childhood cancer champions, advocates and supporters encourage iconic buildings, historic landmarks, monuments, bridges and natural environments to GO GOLD. Whether lighting up gold or by displaying gold ribbons, the global effort is making a difference. Together we will shine a spotlight on the international childhood cancer problem. Please show your support for all kids fighting cancer and their families by wearing a gold ribbon. Our combined efforts will raise awareness and improve future outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer!
